The Globe and MailSearch for missing children goes on-lineOTTAWA -- The search for missing children is reaching out into cyberspace. An on-line service launched this week allows anyone with a home computer and modem to search a comprehensive database of cases. The goal of Child CyberSearch Canada is to help locate missing children by making timely information available to the public. Users can see information provided by the RCMP and six non-profit missing-children agencies by tapping into the Internet or dialing up an Ottawa-based bulletin-board system. The database of missing children contains a photograph and description of each child, plus details of the case. Where appropriate, there is also a photo of the abductor. The information is provided by the Civil Service Co-operative Credit Society, known as CS CO-OP, and Child CyberSearch Canada, an Ottawa on-line service, with guidance from the RCMP Missing Children's Registry. |
